ATI Automatic Toolchangers

ATI produce a comprehensive range of Manual and Automatic toolchangers with good design and flexibility to provide a quick change system for robot end of arm tooling requirements.

What is a toolchanger?
A toolchanger is an end-effector with two coupling parts, a Master-side and a Tool-side that are designed to lock or couple together automatically to carry a payload and pass utilities such as electrical signals, pneumatic, water, etc.

Tool changer selection is generally based on the specific application and weight constraints. Small light weight projects with a suggested payload (QC-001, 1.4kg capacity), to large heavy duty applications (QC-1510, 4,080 kg capacity)

A large range of electric and signal modules are available for toolchangers as well as pneumatic, fluid, vacuum and specialty modules for passing utilities such as ultrasonic welding, camera, vision, video and more.

Optional Sensor Interface Plates (SIP) provide lock and unlock sensing inside the robot interface plate. The SIP consists of lock and unlock sensors, detection shaft, sensing plate and interface plate. The SIP is compatible with all standard series toolchangers models except the QC5 and QC10.

Standard gold coloured toolchangers use American NPT threaded ports, while standard black coloured versions use metric or BSP threaded ports.

Good reasons to choose ATI toolchangers

FAIL SAFE LOCKING. ATI toolchangers are reliable with a fail safe locking mechanism to secure the tool plate to the master plate even if air pressure is lost.

HIGH RIGIDITY. The quick change has a high moment capacity given the locking pistons large diameter and second taper. The quick change does not rock during high-inertia moves, preventing locking failure or repeatability problems.

REPEATABILITY. The piston acts like a large dowel pin, aligning the master and tool with remarkable repeatability. The repeatability specifications are based on million-cycle testing protocols.

NO-TOUCH LOCKING™ TECHNOLOGY. The quick change can lock successfully with a gap between the master and tool plates. Simple.

SIMPLE INTERFACE. The plate design allows for easy robot mounting saving time and extra assembly steps.

A range of quick change tool stands are also available in horizontal and vertical configurations. The tool stand consists of mounting modules, tooling plates and sensor modules as well as posts and horizontal modules. In dirty environments debris covers are available to cover the tool side toolchangers when not connected to the robot.
